How is coaching different from therapy?
The focus in therapy is more on healing from the past, while the focus in coaching is more on getting you to where you wish to be next. A therapist often leads us to uncover our past in order to learn, grow and heal, while a coach will help you to focus on the present including the shifting of perspective, behavior and being in order to create the future you dream to have. Sessions are always tailored to the client and focus on the areas you personally want/need to grow in.
Who should work with a Relationship Transition Coach?
The end of a significant relationship is the second most stressful event in our lives next to the death of a loved one. (Holmes & Rahe 1967) Even if you have a strong support team in place, you still need someone outside your circle to give you both clear perspective and professional guidance. A case study of women leaders who participated in coaching shows that leadership coaching can help coaching clients improve their self-awareness, self-confidence, self-leadership, leadership style, and their relationship to power, conflict, and personal life. (International Journal of Evidence Based Coaching and Mentoring)
Are you unsure if ending your current relationship is the right thing to do? Are you noticing that people go silent when you bring up your break-up, change the subject, give you really bad advice, etc.? Do you not identify with your friends and peers anymore? Do you feel like you can’t get a handle on what direction you should be moving in? Does interacting with your ex give you anxiety and panic? Are you still holding on to old feelings, memories and pain from your failed relationship? Are you tired of repeating the same patterns in relationships that continue to fail? Are you ready to understand yourself on a deeper level to become the best version of ‘you’?
If you said yes to one or more of these, Relationship Transition Coaching is for you.
Why should I work with a coach?
After the end of a significant relationship, self-reflection can be hard to accomplish by yourself. Working with a coach allows you to become more aware of how you’re feeling and how you are processing your life as it is today. 99% of individuals and companies who hire a coach are “satisfied” or “very satisfied.” 96% would repeat the process. (ICF Global Coaching Client Study, ) 80% of coaching clients say that they improved their self-esteem or self-confidence thanks to coaching. (2009 ICF Global Coaching Study, 2008)
What is expected from me if I do commit to coaching?
You need to be willing to be completely honest with me about where you are today and what you want for your future as we work together to assess and prioritize what you want in this next chapter. You must be willing to invest in yourself and this area of your life both financially and with your time. You need to be motivated to get outside of your comfort zone and make changes to the way you have been living and connecting in the world. You must also be open to receiving reflective and constructive feedback. There are times this means letting go of what you think you know and being open to transformation. As we develop goals and steps to take to move forward towards the life you dream of, there will be “homework” items that will need to be completed on time before the next session. Most importantly - you must be excited to get started!
Investing in yourself is without a doubt the best investment you can ever make! In Relationship Transition Coaching I ask that you make a commitment to your own healing and growth on your journey to finding lasting love. There is also a financial commitment as well for our work together that is best determined after we connect on a Clarity Call to see where you are at on your journey, what level of support would serve you best, and if coaching is the right approach to get you there.
